Philip Komla Letsu (*1987) is a Ghanaian artist who currently lives and works in Ho, Ghana. Komla's practice is driven by an urgent need to capture and document the city's culture and lifestyle. The artist's belief in the power that memories and our imagination have in relation to the formation of identity leads his works to address questions of representation. Instead, he is concerned with taking into account what is neglected. Komla Letsu uses bold colors for his subjects and the spaces they inhabit, with a surrealism that satisfies our visual hunger. In the artist's own words: "My greatest inspiration is the innermost satisfaction I feel after a quiet time, when I take time out to explore the positive energies within me and create paintings that satisfy the need to see and the Awaken people's admiration." I translate illusions into reality using the vocabulary of painting."
